Akagera COCAMU comes from a cooperative in the Kirehe District in the Eastern Province of Rwanda. With a syrupy, honey-sweet body, cinnamon spiciness that comes out strong in both pour-overs and espresso, and notes of caramel and chocolate, this is definitely one of our most recommended coffees.

We visited the COCAMU cooperative in March-April 2015. COCAMU has been in operation as a washing station since 2007, and collects coffee cherries from over 700 smallholder farmers annually, almost half of which are women. The cooperative provides fertilizer to its members to help improve coffee quality, and also maintains a health insurance program to promote access to medical care.
